My favorite math lesson was in eighth grade and was part of an integrated unit call “The Moving Out Project”. The idea of this unit was us eighth graders to get a job and move out of our parent’s house. There were many parts to this unit. We had to write resumes and letters to prospective employers and research places to live. A large part of this unit was teaching us how to budget and shop. For me, this is what made many of the things I had learned in math make sense. I saw that there was actually real world application for things like addition, subtraction, percentages, and fractions. Doing this unit helped me see how what I was being taught was worthwhile.
